Whether you’re shadowing experienced doctors, assisting nursing staff, or observing specialized procedures, you’ll gain valuable clinical experience while learning from healthcare professionals in the Peruvian medical system.

Medical assistence

Medical Assistant Project Overview
As part of the Medical Assistant project, you will be placed in a local clinic where you will shadow doctors and nurses, observe their daily routines and techniques, and gain insight into Peru’s healthcare system.

During your placement, you will rotate through various departments within the clinic, such as maternity, dentistry, psychology, obstetrics, and others. You may also have the opportunity to support health campaigns by visiting local communities or campamentos to assist with vaccinations and provide healthcare education.

Please note that your level of involvement and responsibility will depend significantly on your Spanish proficiency and proactive attitude. In a medical setting, building trust with the professional team is essential. Strong communication skills in Spanish will help you integrate more effectively and contribute meaningfully. Initiative and a willing attitude are highly appreciated.

Project Perfile

Includes:

Minimum stay: 4 weeks

Working hours: Monday to Friday from 8am until 1/2pm

Spanish: Intermediate

Donation: $15 every week + Internationally and Nationally Valid Certification

Tasks

Observe the clinic, its activities, and working methods

Shadow doctors and nurses

Volunteers and interns with a higher level of Spanish will normally be given more opportunities to move around the different areas within their clinic

Nursing care

Nursing Care Project Overview

As part of the Nursing Care project, you will be placed in a local healthcare center where you will shadow nurses and healthcare professionals, observe their patient care techniques and daily routines, and gain practical insight into community healthcare in Peru.

During your placement, you will rotate through various departments within the center, such as triage, vaccination, pediatrics, elderly care, and community health. You may also have the opportunity to support community health initiatives by visiting local neighborhoods to assist with basic health checks and provide preventive healthcare education.

Please note that your level of involvement and hands-on participation will depend significantly on your Spanish proficiency and demonstrated responsibility. In a healthcare setting, building trust with the medical team is essential. Strong communication skills in Spanish will help you interact effectively with patients and staff. A compassionate attitude and willingness to learn are highly valued.

Psychology

As part of the Psychology Project, you will join the psychology department of a local clinic. Under the guidance of an experienced psychologist, you will observe therapeutic sessions, learn about diverse working methods, and gain valuable insight into Peru’s mental healthcare system.

Your main role will involve shadowing, observing, and assisting the psychologist. This may include supporting administrative tasks, helping with patient documentation, and contributing to case discussions.

Additionally, you may have the option to participate in community education campaigns. Given that domestic violence remains a serious issue in Peru, these campaigns involve visiting families and engaging with the public to raise awareness and provide psychological support.

Please note that your level of involvement and responsibility will depend largely on your Spanish proficiency. In a clinical setting, building trust with psychologists and patients is essential. Strong communication skills in Spanish will help you integrate effectively and contribute meaningfully. A proactive and engaged attitude is highly encouraged.

With a minimum of 3 months of related study and experience, there is an opportunity to intern in a youth detention centre or women protection centre.

Pharmacology

Pharmacology Project Overview

As part of the Pharmacology project, you will be placed in a local pharmacy or pharmaceutical laboratory where you will shadow pharmacists and pharmacy technicians, observe medication preparation and dispensing processes, and gain insight into Peru’s pharmaceutical system and medication management practices.

During your placement, you will rotate through various areas within the facility, such as prescription dispensing, medication compounding, inventory management, patient consultation, and quality control. You may also have the opportunity to support community health campaigns by assisting with medication education and proper use of pharmaceuticals in local communities.

Please note that your level of involvement and hands-on participation will depend significantly on your Spanish proficiency and background knowledge in pharmacology. In a pharmaceutical setting, precision and attention to detail are crucial. Strong communication skills in Spanish will help you understand medication instructions and interact effectively with staff and patients. A meticulous approach and willingness to learn are highly valued.

Nursing Assistance Project
As part of the Nursing Assistance project, you will be placed in a local healthcare facility where you will shadow nurses and nursing assistants, observe patient care routines, and learn about the daily operations of a clinical setting. Your experience will provide valuable insights into the healthcare system and the role of nursing in patient recovery and well-being.

During your placement, you will rotate through various units, such as general medicine, pediatrics, geriatrics, emergency care, and community health outreach. You may also have the opportunity to participate in health campaigns, assisting with tasks like taking vital signs, supporting vaccination efforts, and providing basic health education to underserved communities.

Please note that your level of involvement will depend on your Spanish proficiency, prior experience, and proactive attitude. In a nursing environment, building trust with the healthcare team and patients is essential. Strong communication skills in Spanish will enable you to interact effectively with staff and patients, while a compassionate and adaptable approach will help you integrate into the team.
