CUSCO – PERU

Hello, I’m Rozan from the Netherlands and during my stay in Cusco I visited this project and my experience at San Nicolás Urraca was very positive. I raised funds for various projects and chose to support this one by purchasing educational materials and craft supplies for the children. I met the director, Luisa, and was impressed by her big heart and initiative, which creates a warm and loving atmosphere. She even started a shawl-making initiative with the mothers to sustain the project, which is still ongoing.

San Sebastian Cusco

My name is Laura, I’m from Germany, and my experience at San Nicolás Urraca was wonderful. I spent almost four weeks in the volunteer project, where the children, despite coming from disadvantaged families, radiate a very positive energy. During my stay, I planned activities, played with them, and we participated in painting the exterior walls, which was an incredible feeling. The coordinators, Luisa and José, create a family-like atmosphere, and I highly recommend this project as it is a valuable experience that will undoubtedly open your mind.

I volunteered at an afterschool program in Cusco, helping to supervise children and provide them with meals. We engaged them in activities like games and drawing, using these to teach English and moral values. This guidance was especially important as many came from difficult and violent home environments.

In June 2024, I volunteered for a month at the San Nicolas afternoon care program in Cusco, which supports children from underprivileged backgrounds. We spent our time playing football, dancing, helping with homework, and playing board games to brighten their days. I formed a deep bond with the children and the dedicated director, Luisa, and learned to appreciate everything I have.

❞
During my visit to Cusco, I volunteered for two weeks at San Nicolas Urraca an unforgettable experience. Luisa, who runs the after-school program, is incredibly selfless and dedicated to the children. I enjoyed playing with the kids, helping with homework, and engaging in activities like chess, board games, and music. The children were energetic, fun, and well-behaved. Volunteering here also gave me the chance to practice Spanish, which I was studying at Proyecto Peru. One of my proudest moments was teaching a 5-year-old girl to play chess entirely in Spanish. I highly recommend volunteering at San Nicolas Urraca it’s a meaningful way to impact children’s lives while enriching your own.

❞
I had the wonderful opportunity to continue a cherished tradition by cooking for the children every Thursday, which brought me immense joy as I experimented with new recipes and saw their happy faces during meals. Despite the language barrier, we connected easily through fun games and mutual effort to understand one another. From the moment I arrived, the children welcomed me with open arms and made me feel like family, filling my heart with unforgettable gratitude and love. Though I couldn’t give a proper goodbye, San Nicolas Urraca will always hold a special place in my heart, and it will be my first stop if I ever return to Cusco.
